Origin: In the 1500s, Paint Horses were brought to North America by Spanish conquistadors.
Characteristics: The Paint breed has a strong muscular body, alert ears, and a long neck. The hindquarters are massive. The coat has huge patches all over the body. Friendly, easy-going, sociable, highly intelligent, fast, powerful, agile.
Weight/Height: 14 to 16 hands (142 to 162 cm) / 450-550kg
Colors: Solid. No markings. Tobiano. White line along the spine with marks between the withers and on the dock of the horse’s tail. The head solid with white markings like the star, strip, or snip. Legs white. Overo. Unconventional white patches across the horse’s body. Back solid color.May be white stockings on the legs. Face white markings. Tovero. Combination of tobiano and overo markings. May have different spotting patterns on the coat at once. Dark spots on the face, ears, and dock. Eyes are blue on a dark head. Basic color white.
Activities: Endurance riding, hunter, trail, pleasure, reining, barrel racing, steeple chase, show jumping
Health: 30 years. Lethal white syndrome (LWS), Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis (HYPP), Hereditary Equine Regional Dermal Asthenia (HERDA), Equine polysaccharide storage myopathy (EPSM), Malignant hyperthermia (MH), and Glycogen Branching Enzyme Deficiency (GBED)
