Hello, my name is Bernice, the official pet photographer at Rough Diamond Pets.
The curly headed person, appearing very occasionally
on this website or my Social Media pages - that's me.
The curls are a family heritage, which also reflect my personality:
unstructured yet (mostly) organized, cheerful and relaxed - plus -
whichever way the wind blows, things just fall in place again!
This has helped me be patient with shy pups or cajole the bored cat:
for their being relaxed and natural makes a most beautiful, treasured image.
All too often, pet photos are faded images, damaged slides and negatives - packed away in a shoebox.
More recent ones lie in drawers - on CD's or memory sticks.
We don't experience their sparkle. And only when it is too late (which comes too quickly in the short years with our pets), do we realise the immense loss this really is.
My mission is to bring you beautiful, archival quality images - printed, even framed. These will keep your devoted companions, anchoring your life constantly, as you relive treasured moments daily.
Your present and future should most definitely include beautiful images. Images of both of the unique human/animal bond, and of each beloved pet individually, to form a positive part of daily life. By either restoring old, damaged photos, by creating fresh memories in new images, or by eternalising a tresasured moment through painting, we can make it happen!
During the 25 years I spent working alongside a professional photographer, my training, although including textbooks, was outside of a formal classroom enviroment. Although I do studio work, my preference is for natural light. Photoshop is a handy tool and beautiful composites can be created if needs be. My preferred photographic style is observance - creating lasting memories from real life moments.
From a young age I was drawing. Painting in oils intrigued me later in life and I had the privilege of doing commissioned work. Currently my focus is on mixed medium painting. It is cleaner (no more inhaling fumes), it is faster (no waiting for oils to dry) thus more affordable, and being printed with archival processes/materials, it can last 100 years or more!
Having grown up on a farm, I have great love for all animals, and have learned many of the finer points of animal behaviours. My headstrong young stallion taught me to observe behaviour and anticipate (re)actions. For the past 20+ years I have shared my home with a pack of Chow Chows, and have learned to understand independent spirited breeds. Other animals which have shared my life periodically have been cats, fish and birds. And no, I'm not scared of spiders, snakes and other reptiles.
