Origins: Officially recognized as a breed in 1991. Today's Bengal cats are only bred within the breed and are no longer crossed with wild Asian Leopard cats.
Appearance: Wild appearance. Strong, muscular body. Markings: spotted or marbled, outlined in black, chocolate or grey/silver.
Weight/Height: 5 - 7.5kg; 35-45cm tall.
Coat Colours: brown tabby, seal sepia tabby, seal mink tabby, seal lynx point, black silver tabby, seal silver septia tabby, seal silver mink tabby, seal silver lynx point. Short haired. Eyes green or gold. Cashmere Bengals (long haired) exist but are not widely accepted.
Grooming: Short coat, must be fed fresh raw meat. Not truly hypoallergenic.
Character/Temperament: Loves water, very intelligent, active and very agile, loves attention, athletic.
Longevity/Health: 12-16 years. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, PRA, Patellar Luxation, PIL deficiency.
