Boer Perd Fact File
Origin: Started being developed 1652, intricately involved in South Africa's cultural heritage. Phenotype and genotype fixed around 1900.Official breed standard and constitution set up in 1973 and in 1980 it was recognized by the Department of Agriculture.
Characteristics: Robust, strong, muscular easy riding horse, trustworthy. Many are five gaited.
Weight/Height: 13 to 16 hands (132 to 162 cm)
Colors: Can come in many colours, skin must be black and pigmented.White marks extending across the eyes down to the cheek, and from the hoof to above the knees (stockings) are not permitted.
Activities: Endurance riding, trail, pleasure, showing, dressage, eventing, in harness
Health: 25-30 years. Durable, healthy & sound.
