Modern Function: Companion
Appearance: Alert, sturdy for size with rounded head, large erect ears, prominent eyes. Coat either smooth/short or long.
Weight/Height: 8-23cm; 1-3 kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Any colour or mixture of colours but never merle (dappled). Long coat: soft texture, flat lying or slightly wavy. Feathering on body and tail. Smooth coat: Soft, smooth, close to body, shiny.
Grooming: Regular brushing.
Character/Temperament: Spirited, alert and active. Aloof with strangers, playful and affectionate with their own.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Needs to be socialized. Not advised as companions with large animals as it may get hurt during play.
Compatibility with people/children: Playful and affectionate with it's own family, aloof with strangers. Not suitable for small children as it is too delicate.
Indoors/Outdoors: Family dog - indoors primarily, but enjoys outdoors for exercise.
Exercise/Training: Highly intelligent, trains well. Can have "terrier" style attitude and then may need firmer guidance. Active, needs exercise bearing in mind it's size/health.
Longevity/Health: Up to 14 years. Occur sometimes: Patella luxation, eye and cardiac problems, epilepsy, neurological issues, hypoglycemia, obesity.
