Original Function:  Drive foxes from dens. Companion
Modern Function: Companion
Appearance: Sturdily built, lively dogs with tapered muzzles and folded, V-shaped ears. Toy: Athletic, graceful and agile. Smooth elegant outline which conveying impression of effortless movement and endless endurance.
Weight/Height: 38cm; 7-8 kg / Toy: 21-29cm; 1.5-3kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Predominantly white, with black, tan, or black-and-tan marking. Smooth: dense, flat coat. Wire-haired: rough and wiry.

Toy: Predominantly solid coloured head. Tricolour, White, chocolate & tan, White & tan, White & black.
Grooming: Wire: hand-strip for shows. Pets can be clippered. Regular brushing to avoid matting. Smooth & toy: groomed weekly - bristle brush or hound glove
Character/Temperament: Courageous, spirited, energetic with high prey drive.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Needs to be socialized. Be careful of high prey drive. Territorial with other dogs.
Compatibility with people/children: Very good family dog.
Indoors/Outdoors: Family dog - indoors primarily, but enjoys outdoors for exercise.
Exercise/Training: Smart, independent, training sessions require consistency and a good sense of humour. Needs considerable amount of exercise.
Longevity/Health: Up to 15 years. Occur sometimes: Patellar Luxation, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Atopic Dermatitis, Abnormal Dentition, Oesophageal Achalasia and Myasthenia Gravis, Legg-Calve-Perthes.
