Original Function: Companion Dog
Modern Function: Companion Dog
Appearance: Small size, molossian. Powerful, short, compact proportions, smooth-coated, short face, snub nose, bat ears, short tail (from birth), active, intelligent.
Weight/Height: 8-14 kg / 31 cm
Coat Colours/Texture: Smooth, close, glossy and soft. Uniformly fawn, brindled or not, or with limited patching (pied). Fawn brindled or not, with medium or predominant patching. All the fawn shades from red to light brown (café au lait) colour. Entirely white dogs are classified in ‘brindled fawn with predominant white patching.’ When a dog has a very dark nose, dark eyes with dark eyelids, certain depigmentations of the face may be tolerated in very beautiful subjects.
Grooming: Bath (not unnecessarily), brush often, wipe with a damp cloth.
Character/Temperament: Sociable, vibrant, playful, sporty, keen, clownish, affectionate towards adults & children, has a special connection to his master, meticulous problem-solver, conquering eyes.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Cats: must grow up with them. Birds and other feathered friends are a no-go unless always caged. Fish also become a meal before long. Dogs: if owner remains leader of the pack.
Compatibility with people/children: Excellent
Indoors/Outdoors: Prefer indoors, but adaptable outdoors. Don’t need too much space as long as their people are around. Sensitive to extreme temperatures. Very alert with excellent hearing ability.
Exercise/Training: Agile and also love to be couch potatoes. Intelligent and fast learners. They are people-pleasers.
