Original Function: Flushing & retrieving game birds
Modern Function: Working gundog, Guide dog, Service dog, Search & rescue dog, Sniffer dog, Pet therapy dog, Family pet.
Appearance: Large breed dog, long coat, friendly expression, generally gold in colour.
Weight/Height: 51 to 61cm; 27 to 41kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Flat or wavy, good feathering, dense water-resistant undercoat. Any shade of cream to a deep gold but not red or mahogany.
Grooming: Requires regular combing & brushing.
Character/Temperament:Kindly, friendly and confident.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Excellent.
Compatibility with people/children: Wonderful, they adore people & children
Indoors/Outdoors: Definitely indoor dog - Goldens have to be part of the family. Don’t need large garden but should be exercised every day.
Exercise/Training: Highly intelligent, eager to please, learn quickly. Alert and can be protective of family members but they are not guard dogs. Some are great talkers.
Longevity/Health: 10 to 13 years. Hereditary problems can include Hip & Elbow Dysplasia and certain eye problems.
