Original Function: Rescue dog
Modern Function: Companion, rescue dog
Appearance: Large dog. Impresses with strength and great activity. Substantial bone throughout but not giving heavy inactive appearance. Noble, majestic and powerful.
Weight/Height: 66-71cm; 55-80kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Black, White with black patches (Landseer), brown.
Double coat, flat and dense, of coarse texture and oily nature, water resistant.
Grooming: Thorough brush down to the skin (slicker and comb) once a week. They drool, keep wiped clean. Keep ears clean
Character/Temperament: Natural life-saving instinct, and devoted companion, exceptionally gentle, docile nature.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Good with female dogs and other pets. May be dominant with male dogs.
Compatibility with people/children: Excellent family dog.
Indoors/Outdoors: Family dog - indoors primarily, but enjoys outdoors for exercise.
Exercise/Training: Moderate exercise. Enjoys swimming, carting. Easy to train.
Longevity/Health: Up to 10 years. Sometimes there is hipdysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cystinuria, heart, bloat.
