Original Function: Pampered pets of Chinese royalty
Modern Function: Pets, companions, showing.
Appearance: Dignified, small, low to ground, thick-set with profuse coat.
Weight/Height: 15-23cm. Up to 5 kg
Coat Colours/Texture: All colours and markings permissible, except albino and liver. Parti-colours to be even broken. Long, straight hair with profuse mane extending beyond shoulders forming a cape around neck. Top coat coarse; thick, softer undercoat.
Grooming: Requires regular combing & brushing.
Character/Temperament: Fearless, loyal, aloof, not timid or aggressive.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Best if raised with them. Can be feisty with other dogs so care should be taken when they meet newcomers.
Compatibility with people/children: Yes if children show respect and have a gentle manner towards the dog.
Indoors/Outdoors: Definitely indoors.
Exercise/Training: Can be stubborn, requires patience in training. Low exercise requirements..
Longevity/Health: Up to 15 years. Brachycephalic syndrome, IVDD, eye problems, joint issues, and dental problems.
