Original Function: Cattle drover and other general farm duties.
Modern Function: Companion, sport and service dog.
Appearance: Medium large, powerful and robust. Should give the impression of great strength, agility and endurance.
Weight/Height: 42-50kg / 56-68cm
Coat Colours/Texture: Always black with clearly defined tan or mahogany markings. Coarse and dense.
Grooming: Minimal but regular brushing is recommended especially when shedding.
Character/Temperament:Good-natured, very obedient, biddable and eager to work.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Generally good if socialized. Might not tolerate dogs of the same sex easily. Cats excellent if socialized.
Compatibility with people/children: Being self assured and steady, the Rottweiler is very compatible with children and people.
Indoors/Outdoors: Needs access to the outdoors but happiest when close to the owner.
Exercise/Training: Excellent trainability. Moderate space requirements. Regular exercise is important for mental and physical well being.
Longevity/Health: 10-12 years. Orthopaedic problems are the main concern. HD is strictly controlled in KUSA registered stock but other joint disorders like Elbow Dysplasia, Osteochondrosis and ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligaments can also occur.
