Original Function: Herding Sheep.
Modern Function: Companion, herding
Appearance: Intelligent, alert, dignified. Appearance of working capability.
Weight/Height: 51-61cm; 15-34kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Rough: Dense, double coat - straight and harsh to touch. Smooth: Short, flat, harsh texture, with very dense undercoat. Coat colors in both varieties are sable and white, tricolor, blue merle, or white.
Grooming: Rough: Daily brushing to avoid knots and during shedding to remove undercoat.
Smooth: Brush weekly, when shedding daily to remove undercoat.
Character/Temperament: Friendly, happy active with no trace of nervousness or aggressiveness.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Very good.
Compatibility with people/children: Very good.
Indoors/Outdoors: Family dog - indoors primarily, but enjoys outdoors for exercise.
Exercise/Training: Responds well to training. Needs regular exercise.
Longevity/Health: Up to 16 years. Sometimes there is Collie Eye Anomaly, PRA, Canine cyclic neutropenia, hip dysplasia, MDR1, Dermatomyositis
