Original Function: Working, sled, herding dog from Siberia
Modern Function: Companion
Appearance: Striking, medium sized dog, white double coat and smiling expression.
Weight/Height: 46-56cm; 16-30kg
Coat Colours/Texture: Profuse off-standing double coat, weather resistant. White.
Grooming: Daily brushing of the coat to prevent matting. Shedding time requires extra grooming.
Character/Temperament: Intelligent, alert, full of action. ‘Smiling expression’.
Compatibility with other animals/cats: Very good.
Compatibility with people/children: Very good but may be too boisterous for toddlers.
Indoors/Outdoors: Family dog - indoors primarily, but needs outdoors time for exercise.
Exercise/Training: Responds well to training. Needs exercise. Tendency to keep running to make sure they are safely controlled on walks.
Longevity/Health: Up to 14 years. Sometimes Samoyed hereditary glomerulopathy, diabetes, PRA, dwarfism, pulmonary stenosis, hip dysplasia, sebacious adenitis.
