Origin: Developed in the 17th and 18th centuries by crossing Turkoman, Barb, and Arabian breeding stallions with English mares.
Characteristics: Refined head, eyes spaced wide, a long, arched neck, and well-defined high withers. Legs are long with pronounced tendons and small feet. Large, powerful, and muscular, yet elegant and graceful. Athletic, intelligent, and a willing horse, but it’s also high-strung and sensitive.
Weight/Height: 15.2-17 hands (152 to 172 cm) / 450 - 550kg
Colors: Depending on country: black, white, chestnut, gray/roan, bay (brown), and palomino, can have white markings.
Activities: Racing, show jumping, dressage, show hunters, steeplechasers, recreational, polo, foxhunting.
Health: 25-30 yrs. Smaller heart than normal, exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage, low fertility, small hooves, constipation
